Hi all, new to this forum. I'm located in central Ohio. Since this forum is about diversity in GSDs I thought I'd ask what everyone had or what they liked. I personally only prefer that standard colors in GSDs, the richer the better, black and red, black and gold/rich tan, solid black, red sables, dark sables and black sables and bi-colors. I've had 2 litters of GSD pups, my first one gave me quite a surprise when some of the puppies came out dark chocolate (liver) color. I own both sire and dam, they are both German showlines, dam being a red sable and sire a black/red. I like blues, chocolates and lilac(isabella, lavendar, etc.) in some breeds of dogs, but not my type in the GSD, however I do they they are striking looking. I'm not really fond of solid white in any breed except maybe the sighthound breeds. As for the coats, for the longest time I was not into longcoats until I actually was given one as a gift, my girl is a thick longstock coat, since then I've really fallen for the longcoats, the more lion-like the better. I do not care for very short coats on Shepherds whatsoever. I own 5 Shepherds, all pure German showlines, one of them lives with my father. I also love many of the European working lines. I had a wonderful DDR female who was the most willing to please dog, she passed away at 14 yrs old. I used to be very interested in American lines but was dissapointed by so many in person, for many different reasons, that I really have no interest in them any longer. So what about you?

I have all German showlines. Some from Germany, one from Hungary, one from the Czech Republic, etc. It's like the United Nations of dogs at my house. lol. All are black and red or black and dark tan. All of my dogs are stock coats, but I have owned a coat in the past and I would again in the future if the right dog came along. Most important to me are temperament, health, working ability and trainability. Any dog that looks great and works great is fine by me!

Hi and welcome to our forum. I myself am into the German showlines. I have had both American and German. My boy that I have now is a long coat. He's my baby boy. He's 4 and a half years old right now and I'm hoping he lives a long happy life. Post some pictures of yours? Chaos is at the top of the forum laying there with his coon.

I have mostly American showlines, and one each German/American Male and Female. The American Lines we have are plagued with Health Issues, mostly Genetic: EPI, DM, Mega, Pannus, Bloat/Torsion, Mesenteric Torsion, and Pano. We eliminated all of them from our Breeding Program, and we therefore stopped showing them.
The American side of the German/American ones are from Working Lines, and the Health Issues are non-existent in those two GSDs. They have produced 3 Litters and only one of the Puppies that they produced had a Health Issue: a malformed Hip Joint, due to improperly developed Cartilage. This was corrected by Surgery when the Puppy was 8 Months old, and she is now healthy and active.
